Minister Alexandre Silveira signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of renewable energy between the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates.

Silveira received the Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Reem Al Hashimy, along with his government delegation – also made up of Arab investors, for a meeting to discuss partnerships between the two countries, mainly in promoting the generation and use of renewable energies and prospecting for new investments in Brazil.

“We will identify and work together to establish productive projects in the area of ​​green energy that will be important for Brazil and will also be for UAE investors and funds. We will seek practical and convergent solutions that can minimize the climate issue and with direct impacts on the Brazilian nation, which still suffers from inequalities. We will not disappoint investors who come here to contribute to the development of our country”, said the minister, reinforcing the work to guarantee predictability and legal security for investors.

One of the projects highlighted by Silveira was the Decarbonization of the Amazon. The minister stated that the UAE may help in the development of the project, including at the next United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2023 (COP-28), to be held in Dubai, at the end of the year. The forecast is that COP-30 will be held in the Amazon.

“It is a very ambitious project with worldwide repercussions. We all know what the Amazon represents to the world, so we will start the project to transform the energy in the isolated systems that today are still fossil fuels into clean energy. We are very interested in the participation of the United Arab Emirates in the development of actions”, highlighted the minister.

The memorandum confirms the commitment of the two countries to collaborate in the field of renewable energies, green and low-carbon hydrogen, energy conversion and decarbonization technologies and biofuels, in addition to the exchange and creation of information networks and the sharing of experiences in related matters. to regulation.
