Safer Internet for Children!
Ooredoo Kuwait commits to educating children and young people on how to effectively use the internet, starting with Al-Bayan Bilingual School and American International School of Kuwait.
Kuwait City, Kuwait: Ooredoo Kuwait recently launched the “Safer Internet Week” initiative to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology by children and young people worldwide. As part of Ooredoo’s social responsibility, we aim to educate the young generation on how to get the best experiences and opportunities out of the Online World.
In the modern and heavily digitized reality we live in, the internet has become a vital tool in obtaining knowledge and skills for children. Once they learn how to access digital information resources safely, they can use the power of the internet in a way that contributes positively to their personal and academic lives.
At Ooredoo, we care about our users’ Online Safety and take the challenge of building a reliable and trustworthy network. We seek to prevent internet misuse and digital crime by creating a safer, connected world for children and young people. And to help them explore an abundance of information and opportunities online.
With the attendance of Ooredoo’s director of Technology/Capability Management at the “Safer Internet week” launch, Dina Saeed Subuh, said, “Today in AIS, I talked about an initiative celebrated across the globe to raise public awareness of the importance of online safety and to encourage a safer internet for all, especially children.
In many ways, Safer Internet Day’s objectives align with Ooredoo’s social responsibility and mission. As an internet and data provider, we are obligated to promote public awareness and understanding of the risks, rules, safeguards, and rights concerning the processing of personal data, including in the online world, particularly with children.
The rapidly evolving nature of the digital environment means that it is vital that children grow equipped with the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to deal with the challenges and risks (including in connection with the use of their personal data) arising from their interaction with the latest apps and online and connected services. Although Safer Internet Day considers broader online safety concerns, such as harmful online content and cyberbullying, it is clear that online safety and data protection are two sides of the same coin. For example, being aware of the risks of sharing your personal data with strangers online will inevitably support your online (and indeed real-life) safety.”
AIS & BBS are two of the most renowned schools in Kuwait. They share a common goal; to build education systems that align with children’s demands. Although there must be a continuous effort on their behalf, Ooredoo Telecom launched this initiative to help them achieve their common goals.
To nurture students’ aptitudes through education, we must understand their day-to-day needs, especially regarding the internet. Nowadays, most children rely on the internet for education and entertainment, which is why this collaboration is crucial.
In a statement from Kelsy Cummings, PYP Coordinator, towards Ooredoo’s efforts in promoting safer internet use,” Dina Subuh provided our Grade 2 and 3 students with excellent tips to ensure their safety on the internet and how to use it responsibly. After her talk, Dina tested the students’ internet safety knowledge through a fun interactive game! Thank you, Ooredoo, for this beautiful initiative.”
Another statement from Nada Darwish, Elementary School Principal at BBS: “We, the elementary school at BBS family, support the “safer Internet Week” initiative by Ooredoo, and we are very excited to be part of it. The elementary school at BBS has always promoted and raised awareness for a safer and more positive internet experience for our students and we are thankful for Ooredoo for this great opportunity to help out students understand that. The internet can be a world of endless opportunities and useful information to our kids, if we teach them how to safely use it. Dina Subuh gave an engaging workshop with students. She delivered all the right information in the most fun way.”
